Mother’s Day - My Birthday

The day of my birth came in the late hours of Mother’s Day and even though it was really two hours after this day Mom would always say I was born on Mother’s Day. She always took great pride in saying so even though it wasn’t true.

There was a time when I didn’t understand why it was so important for her to take so much pride in having me and everyone else think it was so, but every Mother’s Day when I would give her a gift she would always say, “Son you didn’t have to get me anything. My gift came the day you were born.” Of course she always accepted the gift without hesitation like it was a big presentation.

There were many years when the day of my birth actually did fall upon Mother’s Day and our family gathered to celebrate both with equal joy. Mom would still persist that I didn’t have to insist in giving her a gift and I still didn’t understand why she thought she didn’t deserve a gift.

I tried to imagine on the day of my birth just how many tears she lost, the pain it had cost, and how she could have ever thought of me as a gift. It left me to wonder even more that she could ever think such a feat would never deserve the treat of a gift on Mother’s Day.

Mom left this life a few years ago and through my tears of grief I understood her belief in me being a gift to her and on the day we did part I came to know in my heart that we had shared in a gift to one another like no other on the day of my birth on Mother’s Day.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom. I Miss You.
I Love You.

Written for all Mothers and the children who Love them.

Been to Gruene a few times. My mom and her friends all hung out there when they were in school. They still go every once in a while.

Yeah, I love this photo. It's getting printed and going in the scrapbook. It's so funny that Mom is there in the window.

Great photo! Its a two fer'. Your mom caught you in the frame as well as herself on the reflection of the widow. You know that since you are posting all these great photos of Luckenbach I am going to have to make a trip down there just for old time sake.
Have you ever been to Gruene Hall the oldest dance hall in Texas, in the town of Gruene close to New Braunfels?
It is a great place to have a few beers. It is amazing how many music people have played there. Hootie and the Blowfish will play there in June. The townitself is like you entered a time warp, but in a good way.

I am so excited about the tomatoes! I haven't done any gardening since high school, and I'd forgotten how much fun it was when things started growing. Too fun!

I am looking at that obnoxious rose vine in the front flowerbed in an all new way. It grows 3-4 inches a day, all year long. It is completely covered by huge, awful thorns. It blooms like crazy 6 months out of the year with tons of pink roses. Put up a little fence, move the rose vine, and just let it go crazy! I bet it would only take it about a year to to cover a fence along the line between our two front yards.

I need to find out what kind of rose vine that is and get more! LOL!

yea!
We planted a bunch of thorny trees by our backyard fence, lots of orange and lemon trees, cactus. A guy running from the cops jumped the fence into our yard a long time ago and he got all cut up. HAHAHA. You should plant a whole row of pretty roses. Pretty thornyyy roses! :puh:

In our society, being dumb usually leads to being poor, and given the bad things that come with unintentional poverty, those affected are resentful and seek spokesmen to express their frustration and anger in some semi-socially acceptable but almost always backhanded manner. That's all the broadcast loudmouths are really doing, whatever their supposed positions. It's a growing industry that even affects American policy here and abroad. Keeping them dumb and poor is the national equivalent of keeping women barefoot and pregnant. It persists because it works.
